How To Get Kids Eating Healthily
By admin • May 13th, 2010Trying to convince kids that it is better for them to tuck into some broccoli than chips, or attempting to tempt them with an apple rather than a chocolate bar can see many parents fighting a losing battle.
However, in order to get their children to enjoy a healthier diet, mums may simply need to get creative, according to one expert.
Ian Marber, founder of the Food Doctor, suggests that grown-ups look for novel ways in which they can incorporate fruits into their family’s normal meals, in order to see their little ones benefiting from more vitamins.
While children are typically more inclined to try fruit that green vegetables as their vivid colours help to make them more appetising and appealing, when given the choice of fruit or chocolate, the sugary stuff is likely to come out on top.
As a result, it could be worth keeping sweet confectionary for special occasions, rather than a daily treat - where fruit could serve as a substitute.
Mr Marber recommends that parents of kids who refuse to eat whole fruit could find covert ways to get the foodstuff into their diet, such as by mixing fresh pieces into yoghurt or serving it as a puree or compote.
Recent research by Maastricht University in Holland revealed that schoolchildren in a study ate fruit more readily when it was exhibited in a creative way, which may mean it is worth taking the time to make a show of fruit.
