How To Talk To Your Baby
By admin • Jun 14th, 2010Being a new mum may be one of the best times of a woman’s life but it can also be stressful, particularly when it comes to trying to decipher what a baby is trying to tell them when they cry.
Jonothan Wright, regional communication advisor of the charity I CAN, said that one of the first things that parents should keep in kind is that every child is different and while there are many milestones to be reached, it is not set in stone at what point kids will achieve them.
When it comes to understanding what an infant is trying to say, he advised: "You take in all the clues from the environment, the context; at the breakfast table - what kind of things are there that your child might be wanting?"
Mr Wright then recommended that mums and dads respond as though their child is talking too them in order to encourage them to provide more clues, adding that language should be kept simple.
Recent research presented by the Stanford Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, at SLEEP 2010 revealed that children who have bedtime rules and get an adequate night’s sleep score higher in developmental assessments than those who do not.
Does your child get enough sleep?
