Money-Saving Tips For New Mums
By admin • Apr 28th, 2010Parents can expect to fork out £4,000 within the first 12 months of their baby’s life and this financial commitment is causing many mums and dads to worry abut money before their little one has even arrived.
According to a recent survey by Philips, the cost of decorating a nursery, buying new clothing, nappies and food can all mount up quickly.
As a result, three-quarters of parents have admitted to worrying about how they will cope financially before the birth.
Despite this, one in three mums and dads claim to getting carried away with their purchasing during the first half of pregnancy, while a third admit that they have bought more than they really need.
However, there are ways to reduce the cost of bringing up baby.
Debbie Bird, editor of babyworld.co.uk, advised not buying too much clothing during the first three months of an infant’s life as this is a time when they are growing quickly and unlikely to get too messy exploring.
She advised making a list to give to friends and family detailing all of the baby equipment that is needed and that will be essential during the new arrival’s early stages while money is tight.
"Speak to other parents with new babies for advice and listen to their experience especially if they confess to having over purchased items," she explained.
When it comes to the items it is worth forking out on, Ms Bird said that products such as car seats and pushchairs should come with good safety standards.
