Women ‘Feel Pressured To Look Like Celebs’

By admin • Mar 5th, 2010

While many women would be happy to look even halfway as good as Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Aniston, they would feel a lot less stressed if they stopped putting pressure on themselves to look like a celebrity, it has been claimed.

Dr Dawn Harper, from Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies, said that in the last few years, the idea of inner beauty has only been paid lip service, but that research suggests many ladies are more concerned about how they appear on the outside.

According to a study by TENA Lady, 53 per cent of the female respondents feel they are judged on the physical appearance when they meet someone new, while 48 per cent rely on their looks to impress people.

This is in comparison to the 38 per cent who focus on their intellect when it comes to impressing someone new.

"We are bombarded with images of beautiful celebrities who not only have personal trainers and a makeup artist and a hairdresser and a stylist, but also they have the benefit of the best photographers and the odd airbrush," Dr Harper explained.

She added that aspiring to this look was not practical and that women are setting themselves unrealistic targets when they are also busy working or raising a family and looking after the home.

So, while Dr Harper admitted there is nothing wrong with wanting to look your best, women may wish to remember the amount of work and effort that goes into making the stars look so good and realise that maybe they are not so perfect.
