Big Brother Bows Out
By admin • Jun 9th, 2010Love it or hate it, there is no escaping the conclusion that Big Brother changed British television and celebrity culture for ever.
It could be argued that before the first series hit out screens in 2000, you had to have a discernable talent - whether as a singer actor, presenter or comedian - to make it in the world of showbiz.
Similarly, it was widely considered that to make a compelling television drama, a dedicated cast, talented script writers and an experienced director was needed.
However, when ten nobodies entered a house in the south of England a decade ago where they were filmed around the clock, these long-held beliefs ended.
Over the years, people from across the world have clamoured for an opportunity to appear in the reality TV series, with many going on to make a significant amount of cash over the short-found fame and others, such as Jade Goody, establishing themselves as true stars.
But as the last few series of the show saw a decline in viewer numbers, Channel 4 made the decision to axe it, meaning that series 11 - which kicks off tonight (June 9th) - will be the last to be shown on the channel.
And so for old time’s sake, fans of the show may wish to tune in to be sure not to miss every kiss, hissy-fit, punch-up and breakdown.
