Brit Awards Celebrate 30 Years
By admin • Feb 17th, 2010If you tuned into the Brit Awards last night (February 16th), you would be forgiven for thinking you had slipped back in time to the 1990s, as the likes of Liam Gallagher, the Spice Girls and Robbie Williams all took to the stage.
The biggest date in the UK music industry’s calendar was celebrating its 30th anniversary and saw some of the biggest names in pop and rock from the last 30 years take to the stage to pick up the coveted statuettes.
Robbie Williams won the lifetime achievement award and with his melody of hits, he may have finally hushed the voices of his critics, following his controversial comeback late last year.
Meanwhile, the Spice Girls won the award for best Brits moment of the past 30 years - when Geri Halliwell wore her infamous Union Jack mini-dress - with her and Mel B picking up the gong.
And following last year’s split, Oasis won the best album of the last three decades for (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, with front man Liam Gallagher picking up the award and thanking every member of the early 1990s incarnation of the band, apart from his brother Noel.
Song writer and guitarist Noel was conspicuous in his absence from the ceremony and won’t be getting his hands on the award any time soon, as Liam threw it into the crowd.
There were also appearances from more contemporary acts on the big night, with Lady Gaga - dressed in a sheer lace cat-suit and mask - picking up three awards.
Meanwhile, following rumours of Ashley Cole committing another alleged infidelity this week, Cheryl performed Fight For This Love minus her wedding ring, although it remains to be seen how long she will keep on fighting.
