Brits On Top At Baftas
By admin • Feb 22nd, 2010Last year, Slumdog Millionaire - a Brit film - swept the boards at the Academy Awards and in 2010, the British invasion of the Hollywood red carpet shows no signs of abating.
At last night’s (February 21st) Bafta Awards ceremony, the Best Actor and the Best Actress gongs were both snapped up by Brits, despite fierce competition from stars across the pond.
Colin Firth - who is always likely to be a firm favourite with the ladies following his portrayal of Mr Darcy in a 1995 TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice - picked up the Best Actor gong for his role in Tom Ford’s A Single Man.
Meanwhile, relative newcomer Carey Mulligan - who will star in the forthcoming sequel to Wall Street - won the Best Actress award for her role in Brit flick An Education.
Elsewhere, despite huge global box office success and being called a game changer by a number of film critics, James Cameron’s Avatar lost out on the Best Film award.
And in what may have been an additional insult to Cameron, the gong went to his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow for her film The Hurt Locker.
The Brits were also winners on the red carpet last night, with Kate Winslet opting for a sexy black and lace Stella McCartney frock, while Jaime Winstone and Sam Taylor-Wood both stepped out in Alexander McQueen creations following the designer’s tragic death earlier in the month.
What do you think of the British invasion of Hollywood?
