Corrie Star’s Real-Life Cancer Battle
By admin • May 4th, 2010Few Coronation Street fans could have been left un-moved by the plight of Sally Webster after she discovered a lump in her breast which was diagnosed as cancer.
However, what few of the regular viewers of the ITV soap will have realised is that the actress who plays her - Sally Whittaker - has been battling the disease in real life as well.
The 46-year-old actress told Hello! magazine that she was diagnosed with cancer six months ago, at the same time as she was filming pivotal scenes for her on-screen character’s cancer storyline.
"If I had not been researching this storyline, I may not have discovered the lump in my breast and had it looked at so quickly," she explained.
Sally went on to tell Hello! that her treatment has been successful as a result of an early diagnosis, meaning the storyline could "very well have saved my life".
In Corrie, Sally told her husband Kevin she had cancer on Christmas Day, prompting him to end his affair with Molly Dobbs, the wife of his business partner Tyrone.
Sally is set to return to the street in June after taking time out to recover.
Meanwhile, evil Tracy Barlow is set to return to Weatherfield.
Are you shocked by Sally’s news?
