Dress To Impress For Awards Season
By admin • Jan 20th, 2010Sadly, I and the majority of women in the UK will not have the chance to step out on the red carpet this awards season, but one style expert has offered us some fashion advice which will ensure we are ready on the off-chance we get papped.
Jess Cartner-Morley, writing for the Guardian, has offered advice on what to wear for every major awards ceremony this season - which will include the Brits, the Baftas and, of course, the Academy Awards.
Musicians attending the Brits are known for their quirky style and the dress code for the event is more experimental than for other awards ceremonies.
Ms Cartner-Morley predicts "big, black knickers" are likely to prove popular, particularly if adorned with crystals or feathers, while visible bra straps are "de rigueur".
Indeed, ladies attending the Brits should choose a look which does not determine how pretty they are but shows people they know how to rock, she adds, with presenter Alexa Chung the one to copy for this look.
However, the dress code could not be more different at the Baftas and the Academy Awards, with the Oscars in particular demanding high-class haute couture.
Ms Cartner-Morley says the Oscars should be viewed as a "high school prom for grown-ups", adding: "Stars have become so terrified of making a fashion mistake that they go for dresses that have fashion prestige yet can be guaranteed not to offend anybody’s grandma in Ohio."
She urges celebs to avoid the "loo-roll-dolly look", warning that a red carpet triumph can provide publicity that money can’t buy.
This week saw the nominations for the Brits announced and the ladies are leading the way, with Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine and Lily Allen all receiving nods.
Who do you think will in win the red carpet style stakes?
