Happy Day On Albert Square (At Last)
By admin • May 10th, 2010Albert Square is typically a place of doom, gloom and unhappy faces, but it has been revealed that the stars finally have a reason to celebrate.
The BBC One soap swept the board at the weekend’s British Soap Awards, which will be broadcast later in the week.
After celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special live episode in which it was finally revealed who killed Archie Mitchell, EastEnders was duly rewarded with a healthy haul of ten gongs, including the coveted Best British Soap.
Scott Maslen, who plays Jack Branning, won the Best Actor award, while Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Branning, picked up Best Actress - which could be the perfect high point for her to go out on after she revealed she was to leave the series.
Maslen also won the Sexiest Male award, while Michelle Keegan picked up a gong for Coronation Street, with her character Tina McIntyre named Sexiest Female.
A special Lifetime Achievement was given to long-time Rovers barmaid Betty Williams, played by 89-year-old Betty Driver, while Craig Gazey, who plays Graeme Proctor, proving ITV1’s Coronation Street still has plenty to laugh about, despite losing out on the top prize.
