Ladies Night At The Brit Awards
By admin • Jan 19th, 2010In the battle of girls versus boys, women seem to have been victorious, at least as far as musical credibility is concerned.
Last night (January 18th) saw the nominations for the 30th anniversary Brit Awards ceremony announced and many categories are bursting at the seams with female talent.
Florence And The Machine, Lady Gaga, Lily Allen and Pixie Lott all receive three nominations each.
However, chart-favourites Cheryl Cole and Alexandra Burke have both been overlooked for the Best Female Solo Artist award, as has Britain’s Got Talent finalist Susan Boyle, despite having the biggest selling album of 2009 in both the UK and US.
Leading the way for male musicians are Dizzee Rascal, Robbie Williams and Paolo Nutini, while JLS, Kasabian, Doves, Muse and Friendly Fires will battle it out for the Best Band accolade.
Meanwhile, there will also be a category for the best Brit Awards live performance of the last 30 years, with Michael Jackson, Take That and the Spice Girls all being nominated.
The Sun predicts the award will go to Michael Jackson’s 1996 performance of Earth Song, despite its infamous stage invasion by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.
The Brit Awards is renowned for being the highlight of the UK’s musical calendar and this year’s ceremony will be no different, with live performances lined up from Cheryl Cole, Kasabian and a duet between Florence Welch and Dizzee Rascal.
Who do you want to win a Brit?
