Dramas Of The X Factor
By admin • Oct 13th, 2009The first live shows of The X Factor aired over the weekend and as with most of these kinds of talent contests, it has already experienced its fair share of drama.
Just one week after Simon Cowell threw his lavish and what is likely to be momentous 50th birthday bash, which saw the world’s hottest stars in attendance, the four judges took to their panel on Saturday night to watch the final 12 battle it out live for the first time.
As if enough of a kafuffle had not already been caused by judge Louis Walsh putting terrible twins John and Edward through to the final three acts in his groups category, the 17-year-olds’ performance sparked a mixed reaction from the crowd.
Clearly forgetting that he was speaking to teenage boys who have already received enough of a battering by the press for simply chasing their dream, Simon told them that he struggled to find anything positive to say. This in turn ignited the mob that is the crowd, many of whom decided to cruelly boo the twins.
Cheryl Cole, however, managed to up the drama ante by laying into the now departed girl group Kandy Rain by telling them that they will never shake their shady pasts of being strippers if they continue to dress so provocatively.
Many have argued that it was her comments that turned the public against the four girls, which resulted in their departure. But Cheryl, 26, was quick to set herself straight by apologising. The Xtra Factor on ITV2 managed to film the Girls Aloud star approaching Kandy Rain after the live show on Saturday night and telling them: "I just wanted to say it wasn’t personal from me. I was trying to help you. I hope it was constructive."
But since their departure, the girls have slammed Cheryl for her comments saying that her criticism of their outfits was unfounded and that they should have been judged on their performance alone. Coco Lloyd, 22, told TV Biz: "I thought it wasn’t very relevant."
The biggest drama over the weekend, however, had to be the remark judge Dannii Minogue made to school teacher Danyl Johnson. Commenting on the singer’s choice to perform Jennifer Hudson’s And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going in which he changed the lyrics as if to sing to a woman as opposed to a man, Dannii said: "If we’re to believe what’s in the papers, there was no need to switch the gender reference."
Danyl was left in tears after the 37-year-old’s remark, causing Simon to attack Dannii for making such a low blow. She then was forced to make a grovelling apology on Sunday night’s results show in which she claimed that her comments were said in jest and that Danyl was not upset by them. However, her attempts to make light of the incident may fall on deaf ears as countless viewers have already called for her to be sacked.
With such drama going down in the first instalments of the live shows, we can only expect controversies to get bigger and juicier over the weeks, so stay tuned.
