TV Stars Shine At The Inside Soap Awards
By admin • Sep 30th, 2009Next to bangers and mash, good ale and summer holidays at the seaside, we Brits love nothing more than settling down after teatime to catch up on our soaps. We get to know the characters so well, they start to feel like long-distance relatives, usually with such drama in their lives that we’d like to avoid them. So when the actors who appear as those familiar faces day in, day out on our TV screens are given a night to shine as themselves, it only makes sense that we would be interested.
The 2009 Inside Soap Awards took place this week and all the biggest stars were in attendance. The boys looked dapper in their expensive suits, but it was the girls who made the biggest impact at the event as they battled to out-glam each other on the red carpet.
Dressed to impress as always, the Hollyoaks girls rolled up to the awards in their usual skimpy ensembles. Gemma Merna, who plays Carmel on the show, donned a very sexy silky white patterned shift dress with a thigh-skimming hemline, along with some sparkly gold high heels. Claire Cooper, who is best known for her role as Jaqui McQueen, opted for a strapless satin minidress in two tones - copper and bronze. But, Jennifer Metcalfe, aka Mercedes McQueen, was the most surprising, as she went for a glamorous floor-sweeping strapless gown in white that was more Grecian goddess than tacky chav.
The cast of Coronation Street revealed just how well they scrub up when they’re taken away from the cobbles of Weatherfield. Jennie McAlpine, who plays bubbly Fiz Brown, looked stunning in a chic Audrey Hepburn-inspired structured dress in royal blue. The figure-hugging number with its capped sleeves and cinched waist was perfectly complemented by some black patent platform pumps and a sexy leopard-print clutch for a bit of extra pop.
Teenager Brooke Vincent, better known as hilarious bible-basher Sophie Webster, looked all grown up in a strapless minidress with gold panelling up top and a fluffy white skirt. But it was soapland’s sexiest female Michelle Keegan who really went for the raunch-factor. The brunette beauty, who plays Corrie’s Tina McIntyre, donned an asymmetric black minidress with gold sparkles woven through it along with some black patent peep-toe ankle boots with killer five-inch heels.
However, it was the stars of EastEnders who really shone on the day, proving that less skin on show can actually be a lot sexier. Janine Butcher’s alter ego Charlie Brooks went for the babydoll look in a cute white smock minidress with capped sleeves. But to keep the look demure, she donned some bang-on-trend opaque purple tights and clunky black and gold peep-toe platforms.
Kara Tointon, aka Dawn Slater, looked chic and sophisticated in a black lacy long-sleeved top with a figure-hugging black pencil skirt, which she paired with some killer red platform pumps. And finally, Lacey Turner, who won the award on the night for best actress, opted for an elegant navy knitted dress with a knee-skimming hemline and capped sleeves, and some stunning patent grey heels.
I think Charlie Brooks looks great in that smock minidress and that clutch is to die for! Debs.
