Beyonce Sets Grammy Record
By admin • Feb 1st, 2010Beyonce’s alter-ego Sasha Fierce is continuing to serve her well, after the singer walked away from the weekend’s Grammy Awards with six gongs.
Her haul secured a new record for the former Destiny’s Child member, seeing her win the most awards for a female musician in the music awards ceremony’s history.
Beyonce picked up the coveted gramophone for best R&B song and best R&B female vocal on her single Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).
She also scooped best pop vocal performance for Halo, best contemporary R&B album for I Am … Sasha Fierce and best traditional R&B performance for At Last.
In the past, Beyonce has claimed that when she is on stage she invokes the alter-ego of Sasha Fierce, which allows her to perform in a way she wouldn’t if she was being herself.
Picking up her awards, she thanked her husband, rapper Jay-Z, and family, adding: "This has been such an amazing night for me and I’d like to thank the Grammys."
Country music star Taylor Swift also came away from the ceremony with a significant haul, bagging herself four awards.
And the 20-year-old was also left to make her speech in peace, after she was interrupted at last year’s MTV VMA Awards by Kanye West.
The rapper famously interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech for the Best Female Video award after grabbing her microphone and telling the audience Beyonce should have scooped the prize, leading president Barack Obama to call him a "jackass".
Do you think Beyonce deserves six Grammys?
