‘Bling Ring’ Burglars Target Rich And Famous
By admin • Feb 4th, 2010A group of five US teenagers, nicknamed the Bling Ring, have been accused of carrying out a number of burglaries at the homes of high-profile celebrities.
Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Orlando Bloom are believed to be among the victims of the break-ins, which saw the thieves make off with millions of dollars worth of jewellery, cash, art and clothing.
And to add insult to injury, one of the gang’s members has revealed that Paris Hilton became a target as the Bling Ring thought she would be too "dumb" to ensure that her home was secure.
Indeed, it is believed Paris was burgled twice, failing to realise on the first occasion, after one of the accused - 18-year-old Nick Prugo - revealed she had left a key to her front door under the mat.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, he said: "Like, who would leave a door unlocked? Who would leave a lot of money lying around?"
He went on to call Paris "stupid".
It is believed the motivation behind the raids was to steal the clothing and jewellery of the gang’s favourite celebrities, with reports suggesting they scanned media pictures of the stars and picked out the items they wanted.
In another interview with Good Morning America, Prugo claimed the gang would then visit the celebrity homes and look for doors and windows which had been left unlocked.
While the teens are facing jail time if convicted, it has been reported that a film of their lives may be made, while some members of the Bling Ring could even be offered their own reality television shows.
