Did The Coles’ Marriage Ever Stand A Chance?
By admin • May 28th, 2010Just a few short years after they tied the knot in a lavish, celebrity-packed ceremony which was featured in a glossy magazine, the marriage of Cheryl and Ashley Cole is over as she files for divorce.
However, the Coles are not the first celebrity couple to see their relationship hit the rocks and now reports are asking whether they realistically ever stood a chance.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Alison Boshoff and Sara Nathan claim that the Coles’ marriage was "always low-rent and vulgar", with the couple seemingly concerned only with looking good during their time together.
They even speculate that Cheryl’s decision to launch proceedings this week in order to give Ashley time to recover before the World Cup kicks off is a PR operation designed to maintain her status as the "nation’s sweetheart".
Many women would have kicked their husband out months before if he was accused of cheating, the writers add.
Ms Boshoff and Ms Nathan ask: "With two such narcissists, was this celebrity romance ever as solid as it was sold?
"They seemed to share a common interest in making and spending cash and being admired."
Elsewhere, the Telegraph’s Celia Walden said that the Coles’ split is hardly a global tragedy, although media reports appear to give it the same weighting.
Did you believe Cheryl and Ashley’s marriage would last?
