All Mums Want Is ‘Adult Conversation’
By admin • Jun 4th, 2010Socialising with other women of their own age is the top priority for many mums after they have spent the day looking after their kids, rather than taking the spare hours to relax and pamper themselves.
This is according to research conducted by Mumsnet and 5 alive, which revealed that 36 per cent of mums are looking for some "we time" at the end of a busy day, rather than some "me time".
And it is socialising with their female friends - more so than their male partner - that best helps to prevent mothers from feeling isolated from the rest of the world, the study revealed.
While 20 per cent of respondents claimed that they prefer meeting up with their peer group face-to-face when looking for some adult conversation, 16 per cent admitted they made use of social networking sites and forums.
Catherine Hanly, associate editor of Mumsnet, advised: "Pick something you are interested in whether it is cooking, or sewing or photography, it doesn’t even have to be with other mums.
"We can see that parents just want to go out and have adult conversation."
According to TheBabyWebsite.com, the average UK mother will make 11 new friends outside her original circle of pals when she attends antenatal classes, baby and toddler groups and drops her kids at school.
However, she will also admit that she "can’t stand" half of them.
Do you find socialising important?
