Easter Egg Hunts ‘Fun For Whole Family’

By admin • Mar 9th, 2010

With the Easer holidays rapidly approaching, many mums may already be concerned about how best to keep their little ones occupied throughout the whole on the Bank Holiday - something they may feel is an impossible task.

However, by taking inspiration from the break itself, parents could find they have the perfect way to keep their kids busy, for an hour or so at least.

Amy Schofield, editor of education and parenting website mychild.co.uk, said Easter egg hunts can be great fun, whether the person taking part is eight or 80.

"Go to your local market and buy a couple of bags of foil-wrapped hollow chocolate eggs that are cheap, then hide them around the house and garden and get the kids to find them. Create the clues to the whereabouts of the eggs with pictures, rhymes and riddles," she added.

Indeed, parents may wish to invite friends and relatives round to get everyone involved, ensuring that the children are likely to be well and truly tired out by the end of the hunt, affording mums and dads with some peace and quiet later in the day.

Ms Schofield recommends a few other ways for mums to keep their children busy over the break, including enjoying the spring with a woodland walk, having a picnic outdoors or planting seeds.

Such activities may also help to keep kids fit and healthy, after the British Heart Foundation and the University of Bristol revealed a quarter of children in Bristol are overweight or obese by the time they reach the first year of primary school, putting them at future risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some forms of cancer.

What do you have planned this Easter?
