Farewell To The Hourglass?
By admin • Apr 19th, 2010The hourglass figure is becoming an increasingly rare body shape among ladies in the UK, it has been revealed - despite traditionally being seen as the shape which is most attractive to men.
International research by lingerie manufacturers Triumph revealed that while half of Britons agree that the hourglass figure is the most attractive, British females are increasingly becoming apple shaped.
Furthermore, the average British woman’s chest and hips are now 4cm bigger than ladies in the 1950s, while her height and weight has also increased.
The apple shape is defined as when a lady carries more weight around her middle, while an hourglass - a figure celebrated in the likes of Marilyn Monroe - has a bust that is in proportion to the hips.
Commenting on the findings, TV presenter and journalist Lowri Turner said: "The bad news is that the hourglass figure is definitely on the wane. We are getting bigger in general – taller, we are now 5 cm taller than we were in the 1950s - and we are also getting, I hate to use the word, but slightly fatter."
She went on to claim that increasingly UK women need some form of corsetry to get an hourglass shape and this is the only way some ladies can achieve the effect.
