Tributes Pour In For McQueen
By admin • Feb 12th, 2010The fashion industry was left shocked yesterday (February 11th) following the news that celebrated designer Lee Alexander McQueen has died.
McQueen put the wow factor back into British fashion and was a firm favourite with the rich and famous, many of whom stepped out in his creations when hitting the red carpet.
According to the Telegraph, supermodel Kate Moss said she was "shocked" by the news and had been left "devastated" by what she called a "tragic loss".
Meanwhile, X factor judge and keen follower of fashion Cheryl Cole said: "Fashion has lost one of its most talented and inspirational figures."
At her birthday celebrations last year, Cheryl stepped out in an eye-catching McQueen creation.
Naomi Campbell, who McQueen once described as his muse, said the designer’s talent "had no boundaries" and that he was an inspiration to those who knew him.
A statement from the British Fashion Council read: "We are deeply saddened at the news of Alexander McQueen’s untimely death. He was a unique talent and one of the world’s greatest designers."
It was revealed yesterday the designer had been found dead in his London home, where it is reported he took his own life.
According to reports, McQueen had been grieving the recent death of his mother.
The BBC reveals the designer changed British fashion in a variety of ways, including making low-slung jeans stylish, taking skull prints into vogue and championing tailoring for women.
